I hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend! We had some families over for a yummy BBQ and watched the fireworks on TV (I know, not quite the same, but I didn’t feel like facing traffic!)

Now that July is here, I have to get into gear to get my costume together for the SCBWI Summer Conference in Los Angeles - less than four weeks away! I’m going with my writing group partners (Lisa and Andrea - who cowrite YAKnow) and we have put together our costume ideas based on the SCBWI theme “Heart and Soul“.

To make it more fun for you (since I can’t give up my idea just yet … don’t want copycats and all *smirk*) I’m going to hold a contest and give you the chance to guess my costume! Each week for the next 3 weeks I will be providing a clue (and maybe a few extra clues thrown in on Twitter, although they won’t be official or count toward the tally).

With each week/clue you can send me an email with your guess as to what my costume is. If you are correct this week you will get 5 entries. With each week/clue given, the number of entries you are eligible to receive goes down by one! Make sense? Well it does to me and I can keep track of it all, I promise!

Here are other rules, blah blah blah:

• Don’t guess in the comments. You can comment in the comments, but don’t ruin it for everyone else by putting together a guess!
• Don’t enter more than once for each clue. I will take your first entry only!
• Don’t be crass. I’ve got some class people!

Other than that, my last rule is to have fun. Be original, even though my costume really isn’t!

Oh, and what’s the prize? I’m not exactly sure yet, but I’ll pull together some cool stuff from the conference - maybe a signed book or two, maybe an ARC, and if I can’t get anything I’ll make it a $20 gift certificate somewhere.
