I Had a Dream …

You know you secretly wish it. That morning when you wake up remembering your vivid dream and it launches a book series, movie rights (with Robert Pattinson as the lead), merchandise sales … and, well you know you wish it.

The problem is, I rarely remember my dreams. I’ve tried the whole “journal and pencil on my nightstand” and all the tricks, but I still rarely remember them. I actually wonder if I dream at all! Maybe my mind is secretly working on mathematical equations.

There are the occasional times when I wake up in the middle of the night and recall a crazy dream. I think to myself, “this would make a great book!” and I pass out again. In the morning I wake again and realize the dream/book idea was a horrible idea. Aliens shaped like cupcakes that secretly invade the bodies of children at birthday parties? I mean, really? Not so fabulous. Where’s the character growth?

Last night I was pulled out of an action-packed dream by my sick daughter who needed water and medicine. The dream stuck with me until morning and actually carries a coherent concept. It’s not a topic I’ve delved into (and scary enough, meshes with a random idea my husband once threw at me – but don’t tell him that). But it might be worth adding to my growing list of manuscript ideas.

So tell me, do you remember your ideas and have any led to novel ideas?

  1. I keep a journal next to my bed for that every reason. Though I remember my dreams once I’m awake, I can easily forget them by morning. That’s Awesome! I hope it works out!
